Summary of Work Experience

Worked as ESL teacher in China for 10 years, during which time I have taught children and adults. As a teacher, I created and planned lessons, designed audio-visual aids and other instructional materials, diagnosed students’ proficiency levels, conducted regular tests, and delivered demo presentations in various schools.
As a business owner, I organized, maintained and managed a staff of 3 along with various contractors. As a customer service specialist in Bell Canada, the nation’s largest telecommunications company, I worked for two and a half years. I therefore have a total work experience of 17 years, which honed my entrepreneurial, managerial, interpersonal and educational skills.

In Detail

I work for HuaMei International School in the kindergarten department. I have been working at the school for 1 school year. In this role I create a constant English immersion atmosphere where everything that the children are doing is being done in English. I teach a number of different things using a variety of teaching methods; the materials that I teach include vocabulary, sentence structure, letter recognition and Phonetics, story class, Av teaching, outdoor activities and interest groups where I focus on crafts and craft making.

ESL Teacher

I worked at Jinxiuxiangjiang (Global Villa) Kindergarten. I worked there for 4 and a half school years. In this role I created a constant English immersion atmosphere where everything that the children were doing was being done in English. This was achieved through English classes using picture cards; stories; movies; books; games, art classes, sports and the constant use of English from myself and my teaching assistant during all everyday activities.

ESL Teacher

I Worked for Whiz Kids/NDI for 4 and half years. During this time I was teaching children and adults. In this role I was teaching children ages 3 to ten years of age, I was teaching them extra curriculum classes such as movie; fun activity and story classes. For all of the extra curriculum classes I would find or create all of the materials used in the classes which include movies; stories; fun activities; picture cards and lesson plans for each class. I taught the Lingua-phone children curriculum that the school offered for regular classes. I also wrote many of the lesson plans for the different levels that the school offered
I was one of the main demo class teachers at the school for the time that I worked there. As the demo class teacher I was tasked with giving any potential customers that came to the center a class that would help them to understand the teaching methods used at our center. After each demo I would give the students an oral assessment in order to place them in the course that best suited their English level.

I taught adults tutorial; conversation; and role play classes that were prepared and built around the Lingua-phone adult curriculum. I also taught free talk and English corner classes in which I prepare all of the materials used in these classes. These materials include the topics; handouts; pictures; and information used.

ESL Teacher
I worked at TDM Language College teaching students of all ages. In this role I have taught students of all ages both knowledge-based and practical-based courses. At this school I was also tasked with giving any potential customers that came to the center a class that would help to understand the teaching methods used at our center.
I have a strong knowledge regarding interviewing students to determine the most appropriate ESL course for them.

ESL Teacher
I worked at Hubei University where I taught students from the International school and the Business school. I taught spoken English in all my classes.

Academic Coordinator/Supervisor

I worked for two and a half years as the academic coordinator at TDM Language College in Wuhan, China. This role involved orientating and training new teachers, communicating between teachers and school staff and solving various problems for teachers such as contractual misunderstandings, accommodation problems and scheduling issues. I also facilitated solutions between higher management and teachers as a result of miscommunication and poor management. This role required excellent negotiation and mediation skills as well as interpersonal and organisational skills. It also required a good understanding of the cultural differences between Chinese and Foreign workers. Furthermore, it required the ability to not only teach students but also train teachers.

I worked as an ESL Teacher for 3 years at TDM Language College in Wuhan, China. In this role I have taught students of all ages both knowledge-based and practical-based courses. Owner of a Small Clothing Label
I was one of two owners of The Vandal Clothing Company. As owner I had to do almost all jobs in the company such as design, bookkeeping, sales, managing our design team, managing our sales team, overseeing the contract workers, advertising and purchasing all materials needed. This required that I have great organizational skills, interpersonal skills, communication skills, financial management skills, management skills and contract management skills.

Customer Service and Client Care
I have previously worked for two and a half years at Bell Canada which is the largest telecommunication company in Canada. My responsibilities included calling customers to confirm satisfaction of service, the solving any problems that the customers might have had, making sure that customers understood the new products or services that they purchased and to sell customers as many products or services that I could. This role required me to have great organization skills due to the company constantly changing offers and phone plans on a daily bases which I had to keep track of at all times to offer the right services or products. It required me to have great interpersonal skills because I had to quickly find a way to relate to these customers and then find a way to make our services and products relate to them as well; this was not easy because the customers were from many different demographics.
