DOB: June 18, 1960
Nationality: American (USA)
Current location: Thailand

Goal: To teach English abroad along with my husband, Tom Frost.

Teaching Experience:

●2005-2009 Private English Tutor, Mazatlan, Mexico and Buenos Aires, Argentina: I offered private lessons to a select group of individuals. My students included doctors preparing for international conferences, executives presenting formal speeches, entrepreneurs developing business contacts in the U.S. and families getting ready for a transfer to North America.

●2003-2004 English Tutor, Nike World Headquarters, Beaverton, Oregon: I worked with international Nike executives who were spending a year at headquarters to improve their English and cultural understanding.

●1988-1990 Teacher, English Language Institute, Pacific University, Forest Grove, Oregon: I taught grammar, writing, conversation and debate classes to beginning, intermediate and advanced English learners from around the world and coordinated all home-stays and student events.

●1983-1988 Teacher, Frost English Center, Aomori, Japan: I taught English to Japanese students ranging in age from one to eighty four years old. Each morning, I taught several classes at various kindergartens followed by private lessons with housewives and doctors in the early afternoon, then several classes of elementary, junior high school students, and adults. I developed curricula and coordinated events at the school such as holiday parties and other activities.

Other Current Experience:

● Author: My book, The New Global Student: Skip the SAT, Save Thousands on Tuition, and Get a Truly International Education, was published by Crown/Three Rivers Press (a division of Random House) in May 2009. This guidebook for American high school students and their parents was inspired by our family’s move abroad with four teenage daughters. The Boston Globe called the book “funny, innovative and meaningful—a how-to guide with heart” and The New York Times said it was “an interesting exercise in thinking outside the grid.” The book was featured in a half-page article in USA Today, mentioned in the cover story of Smithsonian, and in an interview on NPR’s fastest-growing talk show, “On Point” with Tom Ashbrook.

● Education consultant: Since 2007, I have been a paid consultant for American parents looking for ways to help their kids pursue their most thrilling and fulfilling learning opportunities around the globe.

● Mindfulness trainer: From 2000-2005, I published an email newsletter with nearly 10,000 subscribers in over 100 countries. My eyes-wide-open approach to everyday awareness has been featured in over 150 media outlets worldwide, from Ladies’ Home Journal to the Italian version of Elle, from MSNBC.com to Match.com. I have taught thousands of people how to pay attention.

Previous Non-Teaching Experience:

● 2002-2003 National Outreach Coordinator, Northwest Earth Institute, Portland, Oregon: I managed volunteers in 46 states setting up small discussion groups in homes, workplaces and community centers to talk about topics related to sustainability and the environment.

● 1992-1997 Owner, Retro Active Clothing Company, Forest Grove, Oregon: I owned a clothing store that sold to both retail and wholesale customers, including Japanese clients. Hired/trained/managed a group of employees ages 16 to 28.

Education:

● B.S. in Psychology and Asian Studies, 1982, University of Puget Sound, Tacoma, Washington. My senior year was spent on a year-long program during which I studied politics at a university in South Korea, immersed myself in art in Japan, traveled by train to sites throughout China, trekked to the hill tribes in northern Thailand, explored Buddhist ruins in Indonesia, studied meditation with monks in Sri Lanka, helped build a bio-gas system in a village in India, and studied the flora and fauna of the Himalaya in Nepal.

Skills:

Fun-loving and inspirational teacher. Competent and compassionate manager. Excellent writer. Skilled public speaker. Savvy marketer.
Very adaptable and respectful of other cultures. Can converse competently in Spanish and Japanese.

Personal:

Tom and I have been happily married for 26 years and have four daughters living in New York City, Abu Dhabi, and Buenos Aires. I have a passion for learning and a special interest in teaching very young children.
